Gavin slept for almost 10 straight hours last night...going to bed at 8pm, waking up at 6am. We did our normal breakfast routine around 7, then went straight to the playroom for an hour. Today was a beautiful day in Moscow. The sun was shining for the first time this week, it felt like it was in the upper 60's or so. Gavin was in a great mood all day. After the playroom we gave him a bath, and he splashed and played this time. After that, we decided we were going to get outside. We were going to just go to the bookstore and back, but when we realized how nice it was we thought we better take advantage. So, we walked down to where the Red Square, The Kremlin & St Basil's cathedral is. We took some pictures with Gavin in front of various tourist things then decided to go shopping at GUM. GUM is a huge indoor mall near the Red Square that has high-end European stores.
Mid way through Gavin had fallen asleep in the stroller for about an hour. Most of the stores were way out of our price range, but we window shopped and found a gift shop to get some souvenir's and we bought a little pink dress for Gavin's sister...and out of desperation for quick food we ate at Sbarro's pizza. We went back to the hotel to meet the driver to go to the US Embassy. We got picked up and hit some heavy traffic, and then we realized we had forgotten the money in the safe in the room.
The driver doesn't speak English but we were able to communicate using 'no' and rubbing our fingers together for $$$. He was NOT happy...and we were upset with ourselves. We had plenty of Rubles to cover the cost, but the Embassy needed dollars. Because of the one way streets and heavy traffic it took us 20 minutes to get back to the hotel, even though we had been gone for less than 5 minutes. We ended up only being 10 minutes late and it didn't matter anyway because the Embassy is not busy with adoptions theses days because of the Russian requirement of all the adoption agencies to become re-accredited. The Embassy was uneventful.
Basically we went through some security checks, had a 5 minute interview, gave Gavin a US Visa stamped on his Russian passport. They also gave us packet of immigration papers that is to remain sealed until we land in Atlanta. In Atlanta we will have to go through a secondary immigration line to have those papers processed for his citizenship. But, he explained that when the plane lands in Atlanta, Gavin will become a US citizen at that point. We came back and walked immediately to the bookstore to shop. Shannon had been craving a Mcflurry so we walked to dinner at McDonald's.
It was very large, had a big screen tv, a McCafe (like a Starbucks) and was packed with people. They didn't speak English but we managed to fumble through the order. We got Gavin a Maloko (Milk). Shannon had him drinking through a straw in seconds. I'm told by Shannon this is no small feat for children his age. We're pretty sure now that he is the smartest boy in Russia, if not the world. He is also imitating the sign for milk. We just got done feeding and playing with him, and just put him down at 7pm. We had a blast playing, cause he is imitating a lot of things and to quote my mom, he is at such a cute stage right now.
Awesome, Shannon just walked back in the room and handed me a glass of champagne from the lobby...this place is great. A good way to end the night.Debbie-my diaper bag is from http://www.zagbag.com/ -my friends Heather and Brooke sell them for a local company in Missouri. Each back is custom made from fabrics you pick out. Get Aunt Janet in the business and she'll make a fortune!

A video for the day, shortly after feeding him dinner:

What a cute laugh! Zoe wanted to watch the video clip over & over again. I actually had to cut her off! Happy you had such a happy day! Here's to another tomorrow!
We are so glad you got a nice day and got out for some touring. It was great that Gavin got on a nice schedule. Aaron, I like the hat, looks good on you,ha. Hope it is nice for you tommorrow too.
I'm sooo sorry I haven't posted up until now!! Our house was broken into and the computers stolen. I am now up-to-date with all the crazy and wonderful events of your recent past. We couldn't be happier for you and Sawyer loves looking at the pictures of 'Baby Gavin'. You have a beautiful family.
When you get home and things are somewhat normal I would love to get the boys together and catch up with you. Maybe we could be Gavin's first playdate?
Love it that Gavin's sister will have something from Russia, too! Not sure which McD's you went to, but we were told the giant one on Tverskaya is the largest McD's in the world. Gavin looks and sounds like he is doing so well with his signs, straw drinking, and the great interactions with Mom and Dad you have caught on video! Way to go, Gavin!
Wow! drinking thru a straw already? VERY impressive! Seriously! Your "smartest kid in the world" comment? You may be onto something there! LOL! Oh, and very nice hat Aaron! From the pics, the weather looks quite nice today...what a pleasant break for you guys! (or I guessi mean yesterday...sorry...I've always been a little off on this time change thing!) Aaron - I loved your video from today. Little Gav sure does seem to be happy and content with you guys! I haven't had a chance to post comments for a couple of days but a few key points...the picture from the weekend of Shannon standing and holding Gavin while he has his head rested on her shoulder? Priceless! I also loved the one of Gavin sleeping on your laps on the airplaine. Of course I loved seeing ALL of the other videos and pics too! Thanks again so much for taking time to post so much of your trip. I'm sure it is very obvious to you both how many people care about you, think about you so often, and are praying for you. We LOVE it! Keep 'em coming! :-)
It sounds like you guys had a wonderful day--wow 10 hours of sleep for the little guy-that is great! Graysen can't wait to watch the video and look at the pictures "on her own", she is getting to be Miss Independent pre-teen these days! Graham is out riding his 4-Wheeler, Michael wants to get him racing by next year!
Of course he is the smartest boy in the world. Did you have any doubt? I'm so glad to see he is happy with his baths now. When I saw him the first time in the bath he looked so upset. I knew it was just a matter of time. Thanks for the web address for the diaper bag. Yes, I agree. Mom is going to have to start making them in her spare time. Oh wait a minute, she doesn't have any spare time. I'm glad everything was very easy at The Embassy. You guys are almost there. Aaron, I hope you bought the hat. It looks so sexy on you. How can you live without it. Thank goodness you got to go outside today. I'm sure that helped all of you. Can't wait for more videos. It is fun to hear you with him and to hear how he is picking up everything so quick. What a smart child. Of course he is smart, he is a Bower.....
Man...there's nothing that will put a smile on your face faster that hearing a little one laugh.
I work late on Tuesdays and got home about 10 min. ago. I said hello to my boys, asked what they were watching on tv, then said I was going upstairs to read the blog. They're like...MOM!! You're addicted! You don't even talk to your own children anymore. (For those of you who don't know...my kids are 26, 24 and 21 and they only talk to me when it's convenient).
Tim said he was glad that you guys started this blog. He no longer has to worry about me wanting another baby (like that was ever a thought). But it is fun living vicariously through your adventures.
Glad everything went well at the Embassy. Another check mark off your list of things to do. One more left and then it's smooth sailing.
Well...I guess I better go talk to the boys. They're yelling at each other over something. If you think it ever ends...think again. Maybe that's why I'm addicted to this site. Gavin's too little or doesn't know the English word for "no" yet. :)
I finally got to watch the wonderful videos. They won't play on my computer at work - I'll have to talk to my Boss about that! There is so much joy in your videos, pictures and words - I am really happy for you!
What a classic Father and son moment! I'm so happy for All of you. ;) It looks like you found the happiest little boy in the world. Congratulations!
Like many others, I am also addicted to the All-star blog...I have Luke addicted too. Last night I opened the blog and when the pictures came up he said "Gabbin" unprompted! They are best friends already. :)
PS--I am jealous of the straw drinking. Luke can't get a handle on it. He just blows bubbles and then laughs.
It is so awesome to see you all together. Love the video...lots of bonding going on. Gavin looks so happy....and so you guys! I can't imagine how tired you are, but you will be home soon. Love you!
